Longtime Chicoans remember the cottage at the site of the walnut orchard just inside the gate along North Park Drive. The orchard was originally owned by the Kennedy family, relatives of Annie Bidwell, and became part of the Park in the late 1930s or 1940s. Meticulously planted in precisely even rows, the walnut trees have become a quintessential symbol of one of Chico's earliest crops.
